Meowdy there!

Welcome to our blog. Let us introduce ourselves: we’re Two Nerdy Cats - a quirky bunch of cat lovers that create cute and geeky content and designs! We highlight all things nerdy- from science, technology, video games, to cozy hobbies like crafting and reading.

We started this brand to share our passion for cats and geeky interests with the world, in a way that was authentic and covered our wide range of passions! In this article, we'll share a little bit about our small business and what we're all about.

Two Nerdy Cats: That pawternship of cat lovers with the geeky store

Officially founded in 2024, we're currently a close-knit team of two small business owners, (me - Cassandra - and my husband, Donald), our designer (Natalia), and our administrative assistant (Manuela). You might know us best for our shop on Etsy, where we sell quality items - like mugs, tote bags, and t-shirts - featuring prints of our whimsical designs. There, you'll find a selection of stylish apparel, home goods, and geek gifts - that ship for free to the United States.

All of our illustrations are original and designed by us, which was a non-negotiable when starting the business! In the current age where people are using AI to quickly sell pop culture heavy merchandise featuring popular brands like Harry Potter, Star Trek, Star Wars, and Studio Ghibli - it was essential our brand was not only awesome, but that it was unique and used our own characters. Even if we were fans of things like that and knew it would take more effort doing it all from scratch, it was the right way for us. With that, we created our two cat mascots, Cece and Dom, that you see in a lot of our drawings and are the heart of our universe.

While our store is the most developed part of our business, our true mission is about more than clothing you can wear or purchases customers make. Two Nerdy Cats is more than just an apparel store selling shirts to fill your closet - it's a place to celebrate geeky or nerdy fashion and lifestyle. Our ultimate goal is to build community and connection through “love of all things nerdy”.

What does that mean? For us, it’s creating the perfect space where we can openly express our delight for things the masses call “nerdy”- like science, technology, crafts, science fiction, and card games- together with like-minded people who are ready to embrace their own geeky passions!

Nerdiness: A Cause for Celebration or a Curse?

For me, growing up and even into adulthood, I always gravitated towards quirky hobbies, ones that my friends at the time would say were for "smart people" or "nerds". I was into literature, science, video games - things like that. I always seemed to be the only one laughing at the witty jokes the professor made in class - some might slip out a pity chuckle, but I found them genuinely funny. When I think about it, I always felt a bit like a social oddball, like I was interested in things no one around me seemed to like. This led me to feel quite isolated, even though externally I had lots of friends. Even into college and young adulthood, everyone wanted to go out partying and dancing, while all I wanted to do was read, craft, play a board game, or watch an animal documentary. At group gatherings, I felt like I was weird if I was truly myself, because no one seemed to want to talk about what I want or do what I enjoy.

On the other hand, Donald, my husband and paw-tner in crime, naturally embraced his love for Magic the Gathering, anime, tech gadgets, fantasy sci-fi movies, and more with pure geeky enthusiasm. Ever since I met him, I've been amazed at how he seemed so sure about himself, had no qualms about his hobbies, and had a whole group of friends that were intrigued by these same interests. I realized I needed to dig a little deeper to find my people, learn to and ultimately, make the choice to embrace the quirky side of myself no matter what.

How I made the choice to embrace quirkiness as a founder of a geeky theme brand and shop

Eventually, I found my people and connected with some great friends who share my interests. Low and behold - there’s even massive online communities focusing on the very same hobbies I thought no one but me liked! Turns out, I wasn’t the only one into nerdy things or obsessed with cats. With this, Donald and I had an idea to start Two Nerdy Cats to share our passions, connect with people, and spread the message that nerdiness is something to be proud of! If we can make even one other soul feel that burst of excitement we get when we see something cute, cat-themed and also made for geeks - that's a win for us. If you'd like to see the latest items at our shop, you can find us at twonerdycats.etsy.com!

If you relate or ever experienced similar feelings that I went through on this journey - you’re not alone. You’re not the only one into your hobbies, even if you feel like you are. And if those hobbies happen to be a little nerdy and/or involve furry pets, it should be celebrated in all its paw-some glory.

If any of this resonated or our mission speaks to you, we hope you’ll follow along on this journey with us. If not, we hope you'll share with a loved one who you think might relate. If you want to read more about our story or subscribe to our newsletter, check out our homepage.
